Love has earth to which she clings
'사랑'은 오로지 땅에 매달린다.
With hills and circling arms about--
언덕과 두 팔로 땅을 얼싸안고
Wall within wall to shut fear out.
벽 안에 벽을 쌓아 두려움을 막는다.
But Thought has need of no such things,
하지만 '생각'은 그럴 필요가 없다.
For Thought has a pair of dauntless wings.
두려움 없는 날개를 지녔기 때문.

on snow and sand and turf, I see
눈과 모래와 풀밭 위에서 나는
Where Love has left a printed trace
'사랑'이 남겨 놓은 자국을 본다.
With straining in the world's embrace.
세상의 포옹에 긴장했던 흔적을.
And such is Love and glad to be
사랑’은 그런 것이며 그러길 좋아한다.
But Thought has shaken his ankles free.
하지만 '생각'은 발목을 풀어버렸다.
Thought cleaves the interstellar gloom
'생각'은 별 사이 어둠을 헤치고 날아
And sits in Sirius' disc all night,
밤새도록 천랑성에 앉아 있다가
Till day makes him retrace his flight
동이 트면 날아왔던 길을 따라 
With smell of burning on every plume,
뜨겁게 달아오른 깃털 냄새 뿌리며
Back past the sun to an earthly room.
태양을 지나 이 땅의 집으로 돌아온다
His gains in heaven are what they are.
'생각'이 천상에서 얻는 것은 그것뿐.
Yet some say Love by being thrall
하지만 어떤 이들은 이렇게 말한다.
And simply staying possesses all
‘생각’은 먼 길 떠나 딴 별에 녹아 있는
In several beauty that Thought fares far
아름다움 찾지만 ‘사랑’은 매인 채로
To find fused in another star.
제자리에 머물러 모든 걸 소유한다고.
